Upgrade can be added to any non Natural-run.
You will only use your Wind Job until you unlock your Water Job. Water until you unlock Fire, and then Fire until you unlock Earth.
Then once you unlock your Earth job it will be the job you use until the end of the game. Any abilities learned from the previous jobs may be used.
In order to upgrade players visit their player page on the four job fiesta website and can press a button on the page to unlock the next job. This can be done at any point in the playthrough, but it is generally recommended once a player has mastered key abilities or to step away from a job that is completely shut down by a boss (such as berserker with Sandworm)
